My grandfather Owen McCormac was a weaver long ago. He wove blankets and flannels for nearly every family from here to Burren Mor and also in the parash [sic] of Addergoole.
The women used to spin their own wool and bring it to him to weave it. One woman asked him if he could make it a bit wider than the usual width so that she could roll the child beside her in bed.
At first he used to charge three shillings a blanket and after that he raised the price to seven shillings a blanket.
This is how the weaving was done, first all of the sheep wool was shorn off the sheep. Then it was made clean and washed. After that it was carded and spun, one part which was called the warp was spun finer than the weft. It took about seventeen lbs of wool for a homemade blanket.
