At that time there were landlords who ruled the county. They used get rent and rates from. Sometimes the people were so poor that some of them could not pay the tax and were evicted.
This is the story of a family who lived near Straide. In eighteen hundred and forty nine Micheal Davitts parents could not pay their rent. They were evicted along with Michael and his sisters. They then migrated to England and lived in Lancashire.
Michael had to work in a mill where he got his arm bruised and it had to be amputated. Then(continues on next page)
