  1. Long ago it is said there was a mermaid in a lake about three miles the East of this village.
    She used to come out of the water, and one day a certain man saw her combing her hair.
    The man went to where she was, and stole her cloak, she could not go back to the lake again without her cloak, and she followed the man home.
    Sometime after wards they were married, they had a family and they lived together for some time.
    One day, the man had to go a journey and he hid her cloak in a stack of oats, thinking she would n't find it. The children seen the father hiding the cloak in the stack, and
