  1. Funeral Customs.
When a person dies in this district two or three women wash the corpse and put a habit on it and white gloves on the hands and white stockings on the feet. Then the bed is prepared and white sheets and a white quilt are put on it, the corpse is then put into the bed. Tobacco and clay- pipes are got, the tobacco is cut up and filled into the pipes, and left in a box on a table, and people coming into the corpse-house take with them a pipe. That night the wake is held a lot of young people come into the house and stay there until seven or eight o'clock in the morning. That evening the corpse is taken to the chapel in a hearse and after the corpse is put into the coffin, the pins that were holding up the sheets are put into the coffin also. After the corpse has left the house the chairs are brought outside and knocked down. The Rosary is said in the chapel, and the next day the corpse is brought to the grave-yard and prayers are recited by the priest at the graveside.
