    St. Martin's Night.
For St. Martin's feast day a fowl is usually killed. The blood is sprinkled on the four corners of the house. The sign of the cross is put on the threshold to prevent death from all the members of the family. The fowl must be killed before the first of November because St. Martin takes before and never after his feast day.
