    The Enchanted Fort
In the village of Hawthorn there is a fort which is said to be enchanted. About thirty five or forty years ago some men from the village were cutting timber near it one moon bright night. Suddenly they heard the noise of horses galloping and roaring. When they looked around they saw a horse and rider disappear into the fort. The men fled leaving their saws and axes after them in their fright. When they returned next morning they found their tools broken up. They never tried to cut any trees there again.
Another time a man was going for a visit and he cut across the fields. On nearing the fort he saw a very tall man come out of it. He raised his hand but the poor mortal fled in terror and as he passed a tree near by he saw a number of human hands racing round a tree.
