  2. Rosscat, BATTLE of Cats, Ancient & Modern:
    "This townland, S of Tullow, scene of a dreadful battle of cats long long ago. Thousands of dead cats were found lying all over the place next morning"(M'athair)
    Old man told me 4/Aug/1911: In olden times great fight of cats here. Cats of all classes, colours & sizes collected here & in the morning the plain was covered with dead cats - many ornamented with most precious jewels set in collars etc." Many pools here in dug-out bog: Loc an choinin, Loc ruadh and Big field(Gleann Mor) to S on Ardristan boundary. Now, one of your great Dublin priests (Father Ronan, I think) described in Sunday Independent, a year or two ago, a dreadful battle of cats wh. took place in his time in Merrion if I remember rightly.
