  1. There was a spy & informer living at Aghode in '98. The boys came to execute him one night. They entered the house and called him out. He was nursing a child of about 2 years old and in spite of all protests hewould not leave the child behind him. No matter what they would do he wouldn't part with the child. Finally the leader, losing all patience, raised his scythe and swept the head off the spy. Didn't the blade take the heel off the child, God bless the mark. When he grew he was lame and like young Moody he had to leave the country. Everyone knew why and how he had lost his heel.

"Is minic a chualas m'athair ag teacht thairis seo. Níor fhéad sé siubhal; acht do shuidheadh sé i méis mhoír adhmaid le linn gluaiseacht ar agaidh dó. Ar m'athair féin liom:
It was he who betrayed the fact that Michael Dwyer was hiding in St Kevin's Bed at Glendalough. He went and brought the military. He lead them up before the chieftain's hiding place but he fell instantly for where Dwyer saw the old rogue pointing out his hiding place to the yeos he shot him on the spot as a warning to would-be traitors
