Two pits are made in the potato field, one for the big potatoes or fabawns and the other for the poreens. In the bog he gets a cart load of scraws to cover the potatoes. When covering the potatoes he builds up the scraws on each side of the pit. Then he covers the potatoes over again with clay. He feeds the pigs and the hens with the poreens. He keeps some of the good ones for household use and some for seed. Sometimes he sells them at the market and fairs.
