  2. About three miles north of Dundalk, there is a place called St Brigid's Stream. It stands along a bye road, and about two miles from the main road to Belfast. It was here that St Brigid was born. There now stands a beautiful shrine on the site of her house. It is said that it was in the stream that she washed her clothes. Many people wanted to marry her, so to make herself ugly, she picked out her eye and threw it on to a stone. At once a hole came in the stone
