  1. In the year 1894 a man named John Wellington, a famous yachtsman built a yacht at the back of the present Gas House. He won many valuable races with her around the coast of Ireland. He then sailed her from here to the Clyde in Scotland and won another valuable race over there also and sailed home again with the cup.
