    '' Ha '' says he,

    and in a minute he saw the most awful creature that was ever on earth.
    Jack was pretty well hardened to danger and awful things by this time, but there went a tremor through him at the sight of this fierce monster with red eyes and a head as big as the half of a sack of corn with the same tusks as the other fellow. He had a long body of a greenish colour and four short legs with three long toes with nails or talon's like an eagle's.
    His tail swept the ground for a perch behind him. He was going for one of the cows. Jack ran towards him and when he saw Jack he straightened his legs and looked at Jack. He opened his mouth and put out his tongue.
    It was a yard long and a purple colour. He made a spring towards Jack, and as he did the bangle was flying and dropped beautifully over his ugly head. Jack was a little frightened at the manoeuvres of the hideous monster, but he soon got
