  1. Inch is an island in north Longford.
    The year Cromwell was in Ireland there was a history about the island of Inch.
    The owner of the island at that time, was a man the name of Mulligan,
    When the danger was approaching, all the neighbours helped him to row over horses, cattle, pig and fowl. All the boats around that could be got, were taken over also, so as to give no chance to the enemy to approach them.
    The island was blessed from the days of St. Colmcille, and the poor catholics knew they were safe.
    A short time after, the English soldiers arrived at the lake, and they started firing until they got tired.
    The crowd that was on the island numbered two hundred. It happened to be good warm summer, and the crowd would lie on the good long grass. There was a priest amongst them, that used to read Mass daily for them, and the belfry of his church remains to the present day.
    The English had to depart, and left the
