  1. One day a man named Grier lived near Ballinalee. A priest named Fr McCarthy lived in Ballinalee. One day, as he was preaching the Gospel, he spoke about this man's father being in hell. The man heard about it, and one day, he invited the priest to a dinner. When they were at the dinner, the man's wife asked the priest to prove that this man's father was in hell, and at that they put a revolver to his face. The priest said that he would prove it. At once he put on a stole, and started to read a book. Then he called the dead man, but he did not come. He called him again, with the same result. The third time he called him, and he came up through the floors.
    The priest asked him where he was, the first time he called him, and the man said he was in hell. Then the priest asked him where he was the second time, and the man said that he was loosening the chains off him. Then the priest asked him where he was, when he called him the third time, and the man said he was there. The priest said
