    and made it into dumplons and boiled in a pot, after that the dumplons were taken out and let cool then they were eaten with milk and sugar or butter. There was very little meat eaten. Vale - the flesh of a calf was eaten. A man named Hughy Higgins who lived on the mill road used to kill calves and sell it, he went round with a basket of vale. People ate late at night either potatoes or stirabout and milk. Eggs were eaten on Easter Sunday and on Easter Sunday evening the young people went together and each had eggs, and they boiled them and eat them. This was called a "proocoge", they roasted potatoes and eat them with the eggs. Potato cake - called slim eack was used on Hallow eve and boxty was generally used for supper on Christmas night.
    I heard this from my father aged 54 years.
