  1. Some of the great storytellers of this district were Mat Tiernan and Nancy McGuinness who lived in Brownstown. They used to tell stories about fairies and ghosts. Mary Mullen who lived in Hamlinstown near a well used to tell stories and she was a great singer and a dancer. Thomas Kirk of Hamlinstown was famous for throwing weights. Pat Kirk and Peter Kirk were great mowers. Peter Flynn of Tullyard was famous for jumping. He used to jump across any river. James Kirk of Tullyard was a great dancer.
