  1. The people begin to plough on St. Stephen's Day and sow after the three borrowed days of April. From the first of June to the 22nd is the time for sowing turnips. After St. Patrick's Day the people begin to sow oats. The old people used to say that the oats would be late if it was not sown before the cuckoo came that was about the second week of April. The potatoes should be planted not later than the 30th April. The early meadows should be cut before the 31st July.
