Fairies were supposed to inhabit these moates long ago.This field belongs to Patrick Kirk in the townland of Hamlinstown in the parish of Fieldstown in the County of Louth.A fairy story connected with the above field.One night two men were coming by "Monkey Hill." Suddenly they heard beautiful singing and music. Then they saw two little women dressed in red and green. The little women invited the men to sit under the lone bush. They did so and the fairies danced and sang around the moate. Then a crowd of fairies gave him tea and all sorts of food. the fairies told them not to tell anyone and just then they disappeared.
