    New Year's Day
    On New Year's Eve the woman of the house used to make a special cake. She used to hit it against the back of the door three times to keep away starvation for the new year. She used to say this rhyme when she was hitting the cake against the door :-
    "We drive starvation
    to the Turkish nation"
    Then she used to hit it against the table and the whole family used to eat it.
    On New Years Eve all the slops and ashes emptied out so that none would be thrown out on New Year's Day. People believe they would be throwing out their luck.
    People bring in something from outside to the house on New Year's Morning to bring
