    which was situated about half a mile to the west of Adare. The wood has been cut down, but three of the old trees remain, in the garden of Joseph McMahon who lives in a cottage on the farm. Several hangings according to tradition have taken place, from these trees.
    One on the road side called locally the big tree, is supposed to be haunted on that account. As he was passing that wood, he saw, as he thought a man coming towards him. He was afraid the man might be blind as there was a great many blind men going that time. He held out his whip to stop the man from falling against the car when to his great surprise the whip went on fire
