Hotel, over the Adare bridge, was made in 1839 by the Earl of Dunraven.
At that time according to earlier accounts, the old village of Adare was not situated as it is presently. It lay on both sides of the river Maigue near Desmond's castle. The ruins of the old Parish church of St. Nicholas may be seen just here standing in the Parish church yard. This district is still called Shanbally which means in Irish Sean baile, old town. The town grew up around.
