  1. The Franciscan Abbey Adare and Tradition connected with it.
The Franciscan Abbey Adare is situated in the demesne of the Earl of Dunraven. It stands on a slight elevation about sixty yards from the right bank of the river Maigue.
This Abbey was erected in the fifteenth century by Thomas the seventh Earl of Kildare. It was finally destroyed in 1646. Several Friars were put to death by the English soldiers. According to tradition the blood of the murdered Friars used to be seen at different times on the inner right hand wall of the nave.
