    The man who bought the spade lay in ambush that night, and watched the singer going home from the fair. He came on by the Black Abbey road singing "Croppy lie down". He rushed out on him and beat him to death.
    There was a stone pulled out of the wall near Mr. Dick Toomey's house about a hundred yards from the village of Adare. The stone now stands where he was killed.
