    five pounds, that he did attack him and took his money and his watch. The other man took up the bet. Then Freaney took out the money and the watch and gave them back to him. He then showed him the cabbage stump, with which he held him up. On hearing this, his friend went into roars of laughter.
    This was usually the way Freaney used to rob the people.
    He finally turned informer on one of his comrades, named Bolger, and got him hanged. He thereby obtained pardon from the Government of the time. He ended his career by getting the post of customs officer at New Ross.
