    Whit that great and solemn oath

    In the church of Ballyneale.

    There he wedded Kathleen Ryder,
    Wedded her for woe or weal
    There he wedded Kathleen Ryder,
    Not among the kinsman crowd,
    For the noble race of Freyne,
    Ever held them high and proud
    So to stain his ancient lineage
    With that lowly maiden's name,
    They pronounced a deep degrading,
    Bringing with a lasting shame.

    Thus estranged from his proud kinsmen,
    Holding them at deadly strife
    Four short, happy summers glided
    O'er the kinght and maiden's life,
    And to bind their union closer
    Heaven sent one blossom fair,
    One brave boy their love enriching,
    Ballyreddy's hope and heir.
