  1. 1) January the 11th day in the year of 1881
From home I recollected the story and for sometime I travelled on, as southwards I did then advance.
A moving crowd had met my glance.
I gazed upon them close and long
Their march was quick, their number strong.
Of course I did myself listen
To what was going to occur
And took no time my steps to choose
Till I reached the place of rendezvous.
Drumlish it was I must remark,
So now I pray with patience hark,
And what I seen and heard that day
    I will endeavour to portray.
    2) These staunch supporters of the crown
With Royal Irish filled the town,
And armed to the teeth they were they
    To strike civilians with dismay.
    Agast, astonished and amazed
    Upon their lines I gazed
    My feelings I did scrutinise
To see could I believe my eyes,
I thought perhaps that I might be
    Deluded thus by anarchy.
Or some chimera much the same
