    About eighty years ago the pattern used be held annually, and large crowds came there but soon various abuses used occur. Faction fights were held there and on one occasion when a dispute arose amongst a number of men on their way home a man was killed near Ballyfa.
    When the Bishop got to hear of this he forbade the holding of the pattern anymore as it has never been held there since. Huge crowds came from the surrounding parishes and stations were performed at the well, for any favours which the people wished obtain.
