When a person is getting married here around nowadays it is kept very quiet and there aren't any weddings held but long ago the whole parish would know it and they would be all invited to the wedding. Matches were made a great deal in this parish some years ago. First of all the father of the girl and some of her friends would go and walk the land belonging to the man and see all the stock he had. If the father like the man and the place they would meet in Gort the next Saturday and they would arrange about the day they would get married and all the money she had. Long ago they used always get married in the evenings about five o'clock. When the marriage was over all the people would go to the man's house and they would have a big supper there and they would have a big barrel of porter at the mans house. They would remain in the
