  1. The potato crop is the principal crop grown on the farms in Ireland.
    We sow an acre of potatoes every year on our farm, and as the land is suitable for them, it always yields a good supply.
    The potato soil is ploughed and harrowed before Christmas, and is again ploughed and harrowed in the month of February. Sometimes ridges are made, but nowadays, drills are made with the plough.
    The manure is then brought out, and spread
