  1. Match making. 11th of Jan '39.
This is the way the people of Cluide do the match-making.
If the father wanted to get a husband for his daughter he would go to a fair or a market. He would go into a public house and he would go into a little room there. He would bring the man to whom he wished his daughter to get married with him too. He would buy a bottle of whiskey and he would give it to him, and when he would be drunk he might be soft enough to take her with a small amount of money.
I was told this by Mary Burke, Cluide, Corrandulla, Co. Galway, Aged 65 years.
Annie O' Dowde, Cluide, Corrandulla, Co.Galway.
