  1. There is a curious story in connection with a field on the Kirkpatrick estate at Coolmine. (Clonsilla)
    Many years ago a workman started to plough this field and turned up a number of bones. The owner coming on the scene found those bones were human. He ordered them to be reverently collected and buried and that the ploughing should cease, and that field not to be further broken.
    This gentleman also had a monument erected over the Unknown Dead " to the memory of the unknown dead "
    It is believed that field was the site of a Monastery founded by St. Mochta (now patron saint of Clonsilla) and probably the burial place of the monks.
    Local tradition says that a man went to dig that particular field for potting mould and was instantly stricken dead. Be that as it may the field remains a
