a Synod was held by Gelasius [?], Archbishop of Armagh. St. Malachy attended accompanied by 15 bishops and three hundred clergy. Many monks are buried on this island and a little laneway among the sea-rocks is hallowed by the saintly feet of those who dwelt in the monastery, as they arrived in their boats. The inhabitants of the mainland would hear Mass here when the tides and weather were favourable.
