    sure enough the crock of gold was unearthed from its hiding place.
    Some time after this the man of the house had all his cattle stolen by thieves, and he asked his lodger to go with him to help to regain his lost property. This the man willingly consented to do. Off they went and before the thieves could offer any resistance, the stranger shot them with his bows and arrows and thus the task of taking back his cattle was rendered very easy for the farmer. On their way coming home the man of the house said that he did not know how he could repay his friend for rendering him such great assistance in getting his cattle back again. My pay said the stranger is a sup of everything you take from now until you arrive home; but remember said the man I must have the first sup. That is quite easy said the man who had lost the cattle, but on the long journey home he got very thirsty and on crossing a river he knelt down to drink and when the stranger saw this and that he had not been offered the first sup, he thought the man very neglectful and very careless. He told him because he did this he would not stop another night under his roof, and that for his seven years lodging he would allow him to keep the bag of gold which he had procured for himself and his wife from under the floor in the
