  1. Sad memory wakes within us.
    As we dwell upon the fate
    When the fishing folk of Lackan with a steady crew of eight
    One more ill fated fisher man who brought the toll to nine
    Were victims of the tempest and sank beneath the Brine

    A dozen boats put off the shore with their gallant crews to reap
    As was their wonted customs the harvest of the deep.
    Their nets were cast; they silent sat, the crew within each boat.
    As yielding to the billows she gracefully did float.

    III
    And each fond mother's stalwart son to God's protection gave.
    To shield them on the ocean high upon the swelling waves.
    The lights from their home steads some distance from the shore.
    Shone o'er them on the waters, and a kindly greeting bore.
