    “Now”, said the Princess, “be very cautious when my father comes, and tell him you had a lot of trouble in emptying the well and finding the ring, as he will be very suspicious.”
    It was not long till the little Dwarf appeared, and he was so astonished at the Prince’s handing him the ring that he almost collapsed.
    “Well”, said he, “you never accomplished such as task without the aid of some magician of my land”.
    “I have only one man to depend on” said the Prince, “and he is far superior to any magician of your land”.
    “Well”, said the King, “you have fulfilled the second part of the condition. For so far you are the best man that has ever come to this land, and now we will retire. That is a second day’s work done and tomorrow will be the final.”
    So they went home to the castle
