The Dwarf King ordered his servants to prepare some supper for the Prince and the servant took a few grains of oat-meal, shook them on a small griddle and held it over the kitchen fire. He then placed it on a table and bade the Prince eat.
“Well” said the Prince, “that is poor food for a Prince from Erin”.
“Well” said the Dwarf King, “you will not get any better whilst you are in this country.”
So the Prince picked up a few grains of the meal and pretended to eat, and after the so-called supper was over the little Dwarf King ordered his servant to prepare a bed for the Prince, and so he led him to a large sleeping room. There he stretched an ordinary field harrow.
“This is your bed”, he said, “according to my master’s instructions.”
“Well“, said the young Prince, “Its’ a poor bed for a young Prince from Erin.”
