It was on very rare occasions that meat was eaten and it was salted meat. Fish, especially herrings were used but especially on Fridays. Long ago people made "boxty". They scraped raw potatoes with a rough tin and they squeezed them and mixed them with a little flour and made it like a cake and baked them.
On Good Friday and Ash Wednesday they had nothing but black tea and dry bread. It is about a hundred years ago since tea was first used in the district. Mugs(continues on next page)- Collector
