  1. 60 Years Ago. by Bridget Mary Hughes from her grandfather aged 80. Ballydavock Belearra Castlebar
    This is what my grand aunt told me about the ways and customs of the people when she was young.
    She is 88 years old now: She is still strong and healthy and as intelligent as ever.
    Long ago the people dressed different to now.
    The women wore long clothes almost touching the ground. They did not wear any or coats in these days only shawls. The shawls were made of wool. Very few used to wear shoes in these days either. Many person who could afford to get a pair of shoes should go to a shoe-maker and leave their measure to him and he would make the shoes for them. The shoes were very strong ones with heavy tips and nails.
