In olden times the coffins were brought to the graveyard on mens shoulders. It was usual to rest the coffins in this stile for a little and so the style or gate was was "Geata na gcorp"- a name it has to this day, though no coffin rests there now nor enters the graveyard by the old paths. Indeed no coffins are now brought on the shoulders of men.
Hearses are used now in all cases.
