  1. Protestant Colony in Belcarra.
    Just outside the village of Belcarra is the Protestant Church. It is now closed. No service being held there and the bell having been sold by the Rev. Mr. Jackson Protestant Clergman of Castlebar is now the bell of the Catholic Church of Bekan, Co Mayo.
    The Glebe and the Glebe house are in the hands of Catholics. Indeed there is but one Protestant family in the half-parish of Belcarra at present - and that consists of only two old persons, nearing 80 years each, Mr & Mrs Moroney of Gortlawn.
    It was not always so. Men living today tell me that they saw a time when the Congregation attending the Protestant Church of Belcarra was almost as numerous as the congregation attending the Catholic church. This is probably an exaggeration but it's certain the Protestant population of this district was
